Genny May has been selected as the 2017 Distinguished Alumna from the College of Liberal Arts, Education, and Human Development at the University of New Orleans.  She will be honored at an event on November 2, 2017.

Two representatives from the University of New Orleans Transportation Institute (UNOTI) won awards from the greater New Orleans chapter of the Women in Transportation Seminar (WTS).  Associate director Carol Short was named member of the year and research associate Tara Tolford won an award for transportation innovation.  Awards will be presented at a July 8 brunch event at the UNO Campus.

A research group under the direction of Marla Nelson, Associate Professor, PLUS, will get $295,000 to design an effective and equitable relocation policy for people in Terrebonne Parish.  The funded project directly relates to implementation of Louisiana's Coastal Master Plan.

Nelson's project will evaluate populations in Terrebonne Parish to identify the opportunities and challenges in designing a relocation policy that retains traditional communities while reducing risk.

Dr. Michelle Thompson, Associate Professor, UNO, Planning and Urban Studies, provided hands-on GIS instruction to six graduate students at Chang'An University.  Dr. Thompson was invited to deliver the workshop by Dr. Jianxin Zhang, a planning professor at Chang'An University who previously served as a visiting professor in Planning and Urban Studies at UNO during the 2015-2016 academic year.

The University of New Orleans will collaborate with the University of Innsbruck in Austria this summer to lead a joint effort to excavate the site of a World War II aircraft crash, in the hopes that the excavation will help the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) to identify and return the remains of an airman missing since the war.  The effort includes archaeologists and forensic specialists from the U.S. and Austria, graduate and undergraduate students from the University of New Orleans, historians and museum professionals, as well as support and expertise from The National World War II Museum in New Orleans. Funding for the students participating in the excavation is being provided by:  The National WWII Museum, the Jean Brainard Boebel Chair in Historic Preservation in the UNO Department of Planing and Urban Studies, The Carol Muckley Endowment in the UNO Department of History, the Division of International Education, the UNO Student Government Association, and the UNO College of Liberal Arts, Education,...

David Culpepper, President of The Culpepper Group, LLC, a Registered Professional Geoscientist in Louisiana, and Commissioner of the Louisiana State Water Resources Commission is speaking tomorrow, April 19th  at 6:00 p.m. at Rock N Bowl.  Culpepper's topic is "Coastal Resiliency by Use of Existing, Energy Sector 3-D Seismic Data for Coastal Restoration and Critical Infrastructure Design."  LAEP Members may attend for free.  Non-members at $15.00 at the door, payable by cash or check.
